Carlos Alcaraz knocked out of the Australian Open in straight sets

Zverev books his spot in the second round

Carlos Alcaraz's Australian Open campaign came to an end on Tuesday when he was beaten in straight sets by Alexander Zverev in the quarterfinals. The Spanish second seed looked out of sorts throughout the match and was unable to match the power and aggression of his German opponent.

Zverev, who is seeded sixth in the tournament, won the match 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in just over two hours. The German was dominant from the start, breaking Alcaraz's serve in the opening game and never looking back. Alcaraz fought back in the second set, but Zverev was always in control and eventually closed out the match with ease.

The defeat is a disappointing end to the Australian Open for Alcaraz, who was one of the favorites to win the tournament. However, Zverev was simply too good on the day and deserved his victory. The German will now face either Novak Djokovic or Stefanos Tsitsipas in the semifinals.
