Paris Attacks: 18 Dead in Rue de Charonne Shooting

According to reports, a café and a Japanese restaurant were targeted in the shooting, which occurred just across from the Palais de la Femme homeless shelter.

Witnesses reported seeing blood everywhere, with traces of blood visible on the ground and bullet holes found in the facades of the two establishments: La Belle Équipe and Sushi Maki.

The security perimeter around the scene has just been lifted early Saturday morning.

The street where the attacks occurred, Rue de Charonne, was once partially bordered by the ZAC Dorian urban development area.

On November 13, 2015, at 9:36 p.m., two terrorists opened fire on the terrace of the La Belle Équipe restaurant located at 92 Rue de Charonne, resulting in the deaths of 19 people and 14 serious injuries. This attack was part of a series of shootings and suicide bombings claimed by the Islamic State organization.

In 1982, there was a bombing and shooting attack on a Jewish restaurant in the Marais district of Paris known as the Chez Jo Goldenberg restaurant attack. The attack was carried out by the Palestinian militant Abu Nidal Organization, which had broken away from the PLO.

The Rue de Charonne massacre on February 8, 1962, during the Algerian War, resulted in 9 deaths and over 250 injuries. Survivors of the brutal police crackdown remember the event years later.

The police repression of the February 8, 1962 demonstration at the Charonne metro station was a case of police violence against protesters demonstrating against the Secret Armed Organization (OAS) and the Algerian War. The violence resulted in nine fatalities.
