City's victory consolidates their position at the top of the table
Manchester City extended their lead at the top of the Premier League table following a convincing victory over Brighton in a rescheduled match. The win comes on the heels of Liverpool's draw against Tottenham Hotspur, giving City a five-point advantage with just eight games remaining in the season.
City dominated the match from start to finish, controlling possession and creating numerous scoring opportunities. Erling Haaland opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a close-range finish, taking his Premier League tally for the season to 28.
Brighton showed some resilience, but City's quality shone through in the second half. Julian Alvarez doubled the lead in the 53rd minute with a superb solo effort, and Riyad Mahrez added a third in the 75th minute to seal the victory.
The result keeps City firmly in control of the title race. They will now face Fulham on May 11 before a crucial clash against Arsenal on May 28. Liverpool, meanwhile, must navigate a tough fixture against Manchester United next week before facing Brighton.
